Before the off-season begins, take a hard look at what just happened. Clean up the film, document the lessons, and set the tone for the next team. Post-season cleanup is how we make sure we don't repeat the same mistakes.
Season Debrief
Meet with each assistant individually: what worked, what didn't, and what needs to change.
Hold a staff-only meeting to review every major decision: rotations, sets, late-game calls, and player roles.
Collect anonymous player feedback on practice structure, communication, and team culture.
Write a one-page "season story" for the file: record, trends, injuries, and turning points.
Film & Playbook Review
Archive all game film, scout video, and practice film in organized folders by opponent and date.
Tag the best teaching clips from the season to use next year.
Review every set and drill: keep what produced, cut or replace what didn't.
Update the playbook with any late-season additions and remove outdated entries.
Individual Player Meetings
Schedule 15-minute meetings with every player before the off-season starts.
Review their season stats, film, and role in the program.
Give each player 2–3 specific priorities for improvement over the summer.
Send a written follow-up so expectations are clear and remembered.
Program Reset
Collect and inventory all equipment, uniforms, and practice gear.
Update the master contact list for players, parents, alumni, and feeder coaches.
Schedule key off-season dates: open gyms, camps, coach clinics, and lifting blocks.
Set the first team communication of the new year so players know the standard hasn't changed.
